The Beaufort County Genealogical Society met at Brown
Library on 5 February 2008.At 7:00 p.m. President Gurkin welcomed 24 members and
guests.Gladys
Alexander and Dorothy Adams from
Plymouth
were introduced.
They are researching John Gray and James B. Adams dating back to
1795.After
discussion they were provided with a list of Estate Records on
Microfilm at Archives to assist them in their search.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read.Zelma Singleton motioned, Mary Disharoon seconded to
accept them as read.
Louise Cowell gave the treasurer’s report.BCGS currently has 152 members.Mary Disharoon presented correspondence of interest.NCGS will hold its third Annual Speakers Forum in Raleigh on Saturday 12 April 2008.Their summer workshop is in Charlotte 26 July 2008.Registration forms are available.Durham-Orange County Newsletter announced Colonial and

Committee Reports:No update from Bible Records, Cemetery or School
Projects.The WDN
project will begin soon.Joe Mangum mentioned he was in S.C. recently and has a
copy of that County’s obituary/cemetery record which may be
helpful to our committee.
It was decided our spring trip to Archives will be
Saturday 3 May 2008.
Louise requested suggestions for publication by BCGS.Also, any article being prepared for our June journal
should be in her hands by 1 May 2008.
Albert introduced the speaker for the evening – Steven
Fuchs.He mentioned
he traveled with Mr. House and Mr. Pollard on occasion back in
1984 and 1985.He
presented a collection of bottles, giving us the history of each
bottle, some of which were rare.He had Coke, Pepsi, Mountain Dew and medicine bottles.Their present day worth on the collection market ranges
from $35.00 to $3700.A lady he knows has an Indian Rock Ginger Ale by Pepsi
Cola Bottling Co., Washington, N.C.
bottle worth $5000.
She has it in a safety deposit box.Steven has one bottle with the name John McDonald,
Druggist, on it and asked whether anyone knows anything about
him.Thank you
